Thompson’s Kaleb Harris signs with Auburn

Four Thompson football players singed scholarship letters of intent on Wednesday, highlighted by Kaleb Harris choosing Auburn.

In addition to Harris, Tyler Hicks chose Austin Peay, Zach Simms signed with Alabama State and Jayden Davis signed with Southeast Missouri.

Harris led the Warriors in tackles with 125, including 12 tackles-for-loss, with three sacks, four quarterback hurries, three interceptions, six pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Harris is already enrolled at Auburn and practicing with the team as the Tigers prepare for Maryland in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30.

“Auburn just felt like home,” Harris said. “It’s always been a dream school since I was younger so when the opportunity came with me to commit, I think that was the best place for me.”

Rated a 3-star recruit, Harris chose Auburn from among 20 offers, including LSU, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Penn State and more.

“He’s just a football player,” said Thompson coach Mark Freeman. “He wakes up in the morning a football player and he loves the game of football. He’s a throwback to Jack Tatum, who played for the Raiders and they called the assassin. He’s a striker, he’s a great tackler, he’s a great instinct football player and he’s a great person. I love Kaleb. This is one of my favorite players of all time and he’s going to be a great player.”

Thompson finished runnerup to Central-Phenix City in Class 7A this season after winning the previous four state championships. The Warriors have won to the title game each of the past six seasons.
